Medicare is one of the nation’s largest health insurance providers; it currently is serving over forty million Americans today.
What is Medicare & Medigap Insurance?
Medicare is an insurance plan for people that are the age of sixty five or older OR they could be younger if they have disabilities. Medicare coverage and eligibility is highly dependant on the situation. Generally, anyone with the end stage of renal failure or disease will be fully covered under the Medicare or Medicaid program. There is much paper work to be filled out to determine your overall eligibility, but it is all centered on finding the best plan for you. There are many different options in the Medicare supplement basic coverage, so let’s go over some of them & the prices.
Pricing
Medicare pricing depends on which plan you get, and whether or not you sign up for a Medicare Advantage Plan or a Medigap plan as well. In the beginning, you will decide on which basic Medicare plan you would want. There are many programs available, all labeled via letters; the letters range from A to L, and each offers something different. Recently, Plan D was created to cover prescription drugs, so Medigap is no longer needed specifically for that reason. On average, you will pay a few hundred a month depending on the variants of plans you decide to choose. You may also pay more if you sign up for Medigap.
Medigap is a separate program that you purchase from private insurers; it fills in the gaps where Medicare would not regularly pay out or assist with
Different Plans Available
Because there are so many options, we should probably go over some of the differentiations between Medicare plans.
Plan A – Hospital Insurance
Plan A is a great part of coverage because it offers something that is very crucial to those whom are over the age of sixty five – Inpatient hospital care. If you happen to have a surgery or any type of major medical issue, you may have to live in a hospice; this can be very expensive, but it is all covered under Part A of the Medicare Supplemental Insurance plan. It also covers in-home health care.
Plan B – Medical Insurance - Medigap
This part of the Medicare plan is very important to consider because it covers doctors services as well as hospital outpatient care. When purchasing any type of Medicare or Medigap insurance, you must always remember the saying “Better safe than sorry”. Medical bills can be very expensive, and it is always wise to purchase ahead of time for precautionary measures.
Plan D – Prescription Drug Coverage
Private insurers can offer you Part D coverage, which covers prescriptions that are prescribed out by doctors. This plan helps cover the costs associated with getting prescriptions filled, and can be a real money saver for you. You may also consider Medigap Plans for further coverage.
